Welcome to Winter's Favorite Town
Join us for a 4-day journey exploring a small part of what makes this Utah gem of a city so well loved.
Let the adventures begin!
We recently drove to Utah and had a really nice time! We stayed for 4 days which was a good amount of time for us, but I could see staying there for a week and not getting bored. We were on a limited budget, so we didn't do all the things we wanted to, but we really enjoyed the things we did get to do! Here are a few!
Herber Valley Artisan Cheese
This gem in Midway has a cute store that you can actually watch them milk the cows (check times before going). The milk comes in the old-time glass containers, but they are a bit pricey (milk and container ~$8). We also enjoyed some delicious ice cream and a sweet fruit stand outside where we got some yummy, homegrown cherries.
Homestead Crater
This little adventure is also in Midway. It's housed near the Homestead Resort. There are definite "cenote" vibes in this swimming hole. The water stays at a toasty 94 degrees year-round. Visitors can soak in the water, swim, snorkel (not recommended as there are no fish), or scuba dive (requires certification).
Some things to note:
all visitors must wear life jackets. The kids can wear the speedo floatie vests if they want.
There is a bit of a current in the water, so you will want to swim with your littles!
Swim sessions last for about 40 minutes which doesn't seem long but was actually the perfect amount of time (that warm water gets to you after a bit!)
You have to schedule a slot ahead of time on their website as they have limited availability (schedule or learn more using the link below!).
Other shorter trips included:
Salt Lake City Pioneer Day- We were lucky enough to get to watch the parade celebrating Utah's State Pioneer Day. This was neat for Tristan and I but the kids got bored quickly. Thankfully there was a park close by!
Park City Main Street- The Main Street in Park City is adorable. It's filled with local shops, theatres, restaurants, and galleries. Surrounded by the beautiful Utah scenery, this was one of my favorite things that we did. Lastly, the TV show Yellowstone used main street for filming some scenes so see if you can find some familiar spots!
BYU Paleontology Museum- This was a short (and free!) trip that my 5-year-old son really enjoyed. It is small but it has some great full sized dinosaur fossils. They also have a viewing window to see the scientists at work cleaning specimen and conducting research!
Timpanogos Cave National Monument
There were a couple of trails to take at the park. The first was a 2-3 hour round trip hike to see the caves. Our littles and my pregnant self were not able to do this, but the people coming down from their hike said it was awesome. We were able to do a short 1 mile walk around the property that was gorgeous. This is great for a half day, get out of the hotel, free excursion! Just to note, it was free to do the short 1-mile walk, but it does cost a fee to go up to the caves.
